Paper and Leather Restoration Workshop
The workshop was created in 2000 and is the newest of Wawel’s restoration workshops. It is managed by Ewa Pietrzak, MA, and in terms of organisation it is related to the Painting and Sculpture Restoration Workshop managed by Ewa Wiłkojć, MA. Restoration activities include paper, leather and velum exhibits, e.g. graphics, drawings, books and their covers, and architectural designs. Particular skill is required for restoring drawings, watercolours and pastels, because of their delicate nature. Major works include the restoration of Schedl’s Chronicle, an old print from the end of the 15th c. and two pastels by Stanisław Wyspiański presenting kings Sigismund I and Sigismund Augustus. The workshop also conducts bookbinding work, related to the preparation of items for exhibitions.
